1st Philharmonic Concert

Kent Nagano

Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 6 in A minor

Dirigent: Kent Nagano
Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg

Mahler’s so-called “Tragic” Symphony marks the opening of the Philharmonic’s 195th concert season. More conventional than its predecessors, but certainly not without its share of surprises, the emotional Sixth represents a milestone in Mahler’s career. Composed between 1903 and 1905, it was created during a phase of blows of fate which would have a decisive influence on the further career of Vienna’s Court Opera Director at the time.
