National Youth Ballet & National Youth Orchestra

Summit 2022 – "Youth Creates Friendship"

It is an international summit meeting of the young arts: The German National Youth Ballet and the German National Youth Orchestra will go on tour through Germany and France in January 2022 together with guest musicians from the Orchestre Français des Jeunes. This "Summit 2022" celebrates the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on European Union, the Treaty of Maastricht, as well as the third anniversary of the Franco-German Treaty of Aachen. According to the motto "Youth forges friendship - La jeunesse forge l'amitié" and based on the conviction that music and dance open worlds and build bridges, the agreements will be filled with life in an artistic way and Europe will be presented as a diverse cultural area. The programme also reflects the power of culture to unite people: with works by the French impressionist Maurice Ravel and the German composer Richard Strauss, brothers in spirit so to speak, the ensembles tell stories and fairy tales from both countries in a richly coloured musical language and in choreographic images. John Neumeier is creating a new ballet especially for the occasion. Conductor Alexander Shelley and artistic director of the Bundesjugendballett Kevin Haigen, create a programme that makes the regained freedom, friendship and cooperation tangible after the drastic experiences of the pandemic.
