The Peri – fallen from paradise and cast into the world, she is denied return to heaven. It takes three attempts before the gates open for her again. Robert Schumann's secular oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri (Paradise and the Peri) is based on The Garden of Knowledge by Shaikh Inayat-Allah Kamboh, which the Irish poet Thomas Moore used as the basis for an epic poem. In Tobias Kratzer's opening production, the Persian myth becomes a panopticon of the very recent global past.
