On May 10, 2025, the Hamburg Ballet will take part in the HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY for the first time. On the spectacular pontoon stage on the Elbe River, the company will present Justin Peck's "The Times Are Racing" as part of the evening show "Elbe in Concert."
The choreography was originally part of the ballet evening of the same name, with which Demis Volpi made an impressive debut as the new Artistic Director of Hamburg Ballet in September 2024.
The driving beats of Dan Deacon's music and Justin Peck's high-energy choreography will thrill dance fans both at the Landungsbrücken and at home on their screens. In "The Times Are Racing", Justin Peck once again showcases his talent for blending classical ballet with modern elements: the ensemble performs the fast-paced, rhythmically driven piece in sneakers rather than pointe shoes, repeatedly incorporating elements of tap dance — a style Peck, now resident choreographer of New York City Ballet, learned as a child.
The approximately two-hour live show will be hosted by German television presenter and actress Janin Ullmann. Alongside the Hamburg Ballet, performers will include singer Johannes Oerding and DJ David Puentez, among others.
You can find the Saturday night program here.
The grand finale will be a spectacular fireworks display launched from the floating stage at around 11.00 pm.
