Anniversary Season - 50 Years Hamburg Ballet with John Neumeier

We cordially invite you to celebrate together with us: A great anniversary and a great farewell. Because in summer 2023, after his 50th anniversary season as Ballet Director of the Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier will say goodbye to his company.

To honor all these occasions properly and to the fullest extent, the coming season promises you many special moments. We would like to celebrate our festive season opener together with you right in the heart of our city - at the Rathausmarkt. On September 3, John Neumeier invites his audience to a "Dance Fireworks", a free open-air event.

We also have a lot planned for the rest of the season. In addition to four revivals, John Neumeier will celebrate the last world premiere of a new creation as Ballet Director in December. For this, he has chosen the Mass in B minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, which he will present under the title "Dona Nobis Pacem".

The crowning finale of the anniversary season will, as always, be the Hamburg Ballet Days. For the 48th edition, we are expanding them into a four-week festival that promises further highlights in addition to the usual performances of the Hamburg Ballet: At the invitation of John Neumeier, three guest companies will dance works from his varied repertoire, the "Saint Matthew Passion" will return to St. Michael's Church and the National Youth Ballet as well as the School of the Hamburg Ballet will present their skills on the big stage of the Hamburg State Opera. The four-week celebrations reach their festive climax and conclusion in John Neumeier's final, star-studded Nijinsky Gala XLVIII, which promises a glittering end to this special season and John Neumeier's personal farewell to Hamburg Ballet.
