Love song waltz

In this season too the Hamburg State Opera is inviting you to the ‚AfterWork‘. On specific Thursdays and Fridays, from 18.00 to 19.00 in the opera stabile you can celebrate with us the beginning of the weekend with different styles of music and theater from artists and guests.

An AfterWork of the waltz, of love, of human and musical togetherness awaits you at the end of the year. Johannes Brahms' love of the waltz was closely linked to Vienna, the great waltz metropolis. He loved playing waltzes on the piano and it was precisely out of this love that he wrote his Liebeslieder-Walzer op. 52, making the waltz singable for four voices! Add four hands at the piano and the circular indulgence in the sometimes humorous-ironic, sometimes serious-sincere playing of love takes its course. Our young ensemble and opera studio members have chosen Brahms' masterpiece - supplemented by pieces from Brahms' New Love Songs op. 65 - out of the same desire to sing together, to bring the year 2023 to a close and welcome the new one with singing hearts!
