Reviews
"...One of his best works seen here... On the surface it is a plotless ballet that concentrates on the academic idiom. That is, the steps of the classical idiom can be identified as such. Their combinations are often ingenious, impressive in partnering, and they recall something of the neo-classical style of American choreographers. Yet no one could call Neumeier in "Getting Closer" a disciple of either George Balanchine or Jerome Robbins. Neumeier has done a splendid job of showing off splendid dancers."
Anna Kisselgoff, The New York Times
His short, attractive pure dance work Getting Closer, for 12 dancers, catching all the liveliness and sentiment of Ned Rorem's String Symphony, and featuring one of the company's gifted young male dancers, Alexandre Riabko.
John Percival, The Independent
